Shah Rukh’s rapport with Kamal Haasan is well known. Whenever Shah Rukh comes to Chennai, he makes sure to meet Kamal Haasan, both share a close bond ever since acted together in Hey Ram. Although Kamal never had a chance to pay a hefty amount to Shah Rukh, the Vishwaroopam actor cherish the memories with the Bollywood Superstar.
In the popular news daily Mumbai Mirror, Kamal was quoted saying that Shah Rukh owns the Hindi remake rights of Hey Ram from the film’s co-producer Bharath Shah. Kamal says he couldn’t pay Shah Rukh because he spent all the money into the film and had nothing left in his bank account.
“Shah Rukh only got a wristwatch for acting in my film at the time because, by the end of it, I had nothing left in hand. Now, he is the brand ambassador for a watch brand. I am glad that he got the Hindi rights of Hey Ram from Bharat bhai (co-producer Bharat Shah). He should have some memory of the film as he gave his friendship and service for it”, quoted Kamal Haasan in Mumbai Mirror.
Apparently, Hey Ram was also dubbed in Hindi but it wasn’t a big hit. The film was India’s official submission for Best Foreign Language Film in Oscars for the year 2000.
