Oscars 2018 Academy Awards an Insight and the list of winners
The Academy celebrates its 90th birthday this year marking a tremendous success in presenting the awards to the deserving artists and technicians across the globe. One may say what’s so special about this award, trust me it’s special and only the one who receives it will know its true value. Filmmakers across the world regardless of the barriers long to get a glimpse of it, just a nomination makes it a big deal.
That being said, Jimmy Kimmel returned to host the 90h edition of Academy Awards this year. It wasn’t lively as it was last year, there was something missing from him. He was witty, sarcastic and all that he’s famous for, but still it didn’t catch up to the speed. But he made the best he could and kept the audience entertained.
This year the OSCAR moment was missing, but the OSCAR surprise was a good one. They picked a handful of actors and took them to TCL Chinese Theatre to surprise the audience there as a thank you and tribute across the globe for watching films all these years. The actors included Gal Gadot, Lupita Nyong, Margot Robbie, Guillermo Del Torro & Arnie Hammer among others.
The performances weren’t that interesting this year, just when you were about to lose hope came a performance “THIS IS ME” from THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, which was gracefully performed and livened the audience.
And to add a twist to the end, they got Warren Beatty to announce the BEST PICTURE once again, and was assured there will be no goof-ups this year and came the announcement. “The Shape of Water” which was the front runner with 13 nominations bagged 4 awards Best Picture, Best Music, Best Production Design and Best Director. While the Stupendous “Dunkirk” bagged 3 Awards from 9 nominations Best Sound Mix, Best Sound Editing & Film Editing. This year I’m pretty sure no one will have qualms about the best Actor and Actress, as both were well deserving ones. Frances McDormand was splendid and Gary Oldman was fantastic. Adding to the highlight was Roger Deakins winning the Oscars for the first time after being nominated for 13 times under Best Cinematography.
Not to forget, it felt really good looking at “The Academy” paying a tribute to an Indian Actress “Sridevi” who passed away recently under “In Memoriam”.
