What is it about: It’s an official remake of Tamil film “Ok Kanmani” directed by Maniratnam. The Hindi version is directed by the “Saathiya” fame Shaad Ali.

Why it’s disappointing: Another remake which doesn’t quite make it to the original charm. Well that’s one tough task every director faces when he’s up to remake from another language.

One main thing which was lacking in this Hindi version was the on screen charisma of Dulquer and Nithya from Tamil version. The film was made almost frame to frame ditto, but you can’t help yourself from comparing the difference. This film had everything that the original had, except for that X factor of charm, which seemed missing.

What to watch out for: The film had a great tone and feel which surely does makes you fall in love with it. The lead cast Aditya and Shraddha were quite commendable in making their romantic mark. And they do it in their style, which may not be convincing to the Tamil audience. But the fact is they were good and did a neat job. Naseeruddin Shah and Leela Samson were good.

The cinematography was spectacular by Ravi K Chandran, he lit up the screen with the most vivid colours. And the editing by Sreekar Prasad was crisp.

The music by AR Rahman was well recreated to suit Bollywood and the lyrics by Gulzar and Mehboob was well complimented. The songs were well choreographed and the costumes for Shraddha were hip and happening.

Verdict: Shaad Ali, did a fine job in remaking this film. But still couldn’t bring himself to recreate the same magic what he did with “Saathiya”. This time it didn’t work to its full extent. Still it’s worth a watch for the commendable attempt.
