What is it about: This film is about Happy (Diana Penty), who does a runaway bride in protest to her father for choosing a groom, who she despises. What happens when “Happy” jumps the marriage forms the crux of the story directed by Mudassar Aziz.
Why it’s disappointing: Yes it’s a clichéd subject, and has few elements which might annoy you. But we have to ignore those factors as there are many reasons to.
What to watch out for: The film in spite of the clichéd plot, has a new approach to it. And that works wonders for “Happy Bhag Jayegi”. The strong suit of the film were its dialogues, which had two slangs blended with great comedy. Punjabi and Urdu mixed with local slangs brought a wonderful flavour, which leaves you asking for more.
Diana Penty was seen on screen after “Cocktail”. And she delivers a great performance in HBJ. Her tom boyish and straight out character was very convincing. She puts a big laugh on your face.
Abhay Deol, once again fits the trouble fixer and chaos controller really well. He churns out a funny one. And that was closely followed by Ali Fazal.
Jimmy Shergill, returns as Bagga and trust me no one can do what he does and he does that with great élan. Momal Sheikh as Zoya was a beautiful find from Pakistan film industry, who gave a commendable performance.
Another noteworthy performance was by Piyush Mishra, who made sure that audiences doesn’t forget him. A great actor and a commendable performance.
Saurabh Goswami’s cinematography was racy and was crisply edited by Ninad Khanolkar. The music by Sohail Sen was good.
Verdict: Mudassar Aziz perfectly mixed all the ingredients required for “Happy” to be “Happy”. And that resulted in a comedy which keeps you tickling throughout and entertained. Definitely worth a watch and a great stress buster for this weekend.
