3rd weekend Another win for Bajirao Mastani: Breaking records day by day, setting trends week after week Bajirao Mastani is not ready to slow down at Indian box office. It has become the second film only to get 5+ crores on the first 17 days of release, a record held by PK so far.
Bajirao Mastani has managed to beat life time figures of Tanu Weds Manu Returns which was 152 crores domestically to become the 3rd highest grosser of 2015 behind Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Currently it stands on 162.36 crores and is all set to reach 170 crores by the end of its third week itself. Even on its third weekend it has managed to earn more than films like Katti Batti, Hero, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Bombay Velvet or Ek Paheli Leela earned in their first weekend.
Every one predicted that it is an unwise decision to release Bajirao Mastani on the same date with Dilwale but if we look at the figures the real story is very much different than we all predicted. Dilwale only managed to collect less than 8 crores in its New year’s weekend in contrast to 21+ crores of Bajirao Mastani. However Dilwale is ahead of its competition in many of the regions like west Bengal, Tamil Nadu/ Kerala and Bihar. But these regions are incomparable to the region like Mumbai territory which contributes around 30% to 40% of overall collections.
And here Bajirao Mastani is ahead of SRK starrer with a huge margin. As there was no big release on New year’s weekend, Bajirao Mastani can get to a 3rd week total of 30 – 31 crores. For a net total of 200 crores Bajirao Mastani has to give a tough competition to Wazir, but that is unlikely because reports related to Wazir are positive in terms of content. But still Deepika and Ranveer starrer will give a tough competition to Wazir in multiplexes where it is still holding a good number of screens.
Whether Bajirao Mastani will cross the double century or not? It all depends on it’s fourth weekend business and Wazir’s word of mouth. We hope it will be a win – win situation for both the films.
